Correlation between Oxidative Stress and Type Ii Diabetic Patients

چکیده
Fifty type II diabetic patients (non insulin dependant diabetes mellitus) and 50 healthy individuals (without diabetes) were included in this randomized study. None of the patients studied had any diabetic complications. The levels of serum malondialdehyde (MDA) from type II diabetic patients was 5.33 ± 1.46 nmol/ml as compared to control (2.74 ± 0.4 nmol/ml). There was agedependent increase in serum MDA in healthy individuals and age-independent increase in MDA levels in type II diabetic patients. There was sufficiently high degree of positive correlation between blood glucose level and the serum MDA level (r=0.78, p<0.001) as well as between the duration of the disease and serum MDA level in TYPE II DIABETICpatients (r=0.82, p< 0.001) indicating that hyperglycemic condition and duration of disease are responsible for increased oxidative stress in these patients.

Administration of Iranian Propolis attenuates oxidative stress and blood glucose in type II diabetic patients: a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, clinical trial
Background: Hyperglycemia in diabetic people resulted in oxidative conditions. Propolis is the third most important component of bee products which has various functional properties such as anti-oxidant due to its components. The aim of this study was to evaluate the propolis effect on fructosamine level, the catalase activity, and the level of oxidized LDL changes in type 2 diabetic patients. ...
متن کاملDiabetes and Oxidative Stress: The Mechanism and Action
Abstract Diabetes mellitus is one of the major metabolic disorders. Diabetes is recognized for severe complications including diabetic nephropathy, neuropathy and retinopathy. Long-lasting effect of hyperglycemia results in increased oxidative stress. Oxidative stress results from an imbalance between radical-generating and radical scavenging systems. Increased oxidative stress has been shown ...
متن کاملEVALUATION OF GLUTATHIONE PEROXIDE ACTIVITY AND OXIDATIVE STRESS IN TYPE 2 DIABETIC PATIENTS AND THEIR RELATIONSHIP WITH SERUM GLUCOSE LEVEL AND BLOOD LIPID PARAMETERS IN A CASE-CONTROL STUDY
Background & Aims: Diabetes has been the most common metabolic disorder in recent decades. Oxidative stress and its related factors play an important role in the onset and complications of diabetes. In this study, glutathione peroxidase activity and oxidative stress indices in serum of type 2 diabetes patients and their correlation with blood glucose and lipid parameters were evaluated. متن کاملThe Correlation Between Serum Vitamin D Level and Total Antioxidant Capacity in diabetic and Non-diabetic Subjects in Iran
Background& Objective: Increase in intra- and extracellular glucose levels can cause oxidative stress, and the prolonged imbalance between prooxidants and antioxidantscan lead to cell damage and the associated complications in patients with diabetes. Vitamin D acts as a strong antioxidant in the body and several studies emphasized on its important rol...
متن کاملADVANCED GLYCATION END PRODUCTS AND ThiOBARBITURIC ACID REACTIVE SUBSTANCE IN GINGIVAL TISSUES OF DIABETIC AND NON-DIABETIC PATIENTS WITH CHRONIC PERIODONTITIS
ABSTRACT Background: Production of advanced glycation end products (AGEs) is directly linked to the level and duration of hyperglycemia in diabetic patients. Oxidative stress plays a major role in the pathogenesis of diabetes mellitus. Free radicals are f01med in diabetes by glucose oxidation, nonenzymatic glycation of proteins and subsequent oxidative degradation of glycated proteins. Thiobar...
